It may or may not surprise you to learn that I wasn't alive in the 1930s.

But you catch my drift? Yes?
No, not really. Presumably you're attempting to show how lacking I am in morality by asking whether I would play my part in one of the most heinous crimes the world has ever seen.

If so, can I suggest that you go for a less extreme approach to character assassination?
Theland to Jim, //So in 1930's Germany, would you be reporting your neighbour for being Jewish, that being the thing to do in loyalty to the state, or would some overriding compulsion cancel this out?//

Any overriding compulsion to cancel that out can’t be attributed to God’s influence which is what, if I'm catching your drift, you seem to be suggesting. If altruism in any form required God, we would have no secular aid organisations - but in fact their numbers and their successes by far exceed those agencies organised by religious groups.

We are made in the image of God, so it is not surprising that we have a conscience and a tendency towards altruism. But without objective morality, we become the final arbiter of right and wrong, and we all know that leads to chaos, the chaos we see around us every day.
Theland, //We are made in the image of God, so it is not surprising that we have a conscience and a tendency towards altruism.//

But God wasn't altruistic. He was a cruel, bullying, control freak. Read your bible.
As the world's leading expert in circular arguments, that sounds rather like one to me, Theland.
Question Author
How so Jim?
Nims, only your opinion.
Theland, no, it is not my ‘opinion’. You bang on about ‘objective morality’ and ‘evidence’, most of which is wishful thinking on your part, but deny verifiable evidence because it doesn’t concur with your agenda. If you want evidence of God’s twisted nature take a look at his treatment of Abraham and Isaac, of Job, and of David’s baby son – and there’s plenty more where that came from. If any human being behaved similarly he’d be considered, quite justifiably, completely insane.
//If a man would follow, today, the teachings of the Old Testament, he would be a criminal. If he would follow strictly the teachings of the New, he would be insane//
Robert Ingersol.
Sure Naomi but as God is clearly omnibenevolent then even the evil things he does are actually good things because he can't do things that are bad. Stands to reason.

(Please note that I don't actually believe any of what I just wrote but this is the sort of circular argument I was talking about.)
Robert Ingersol. He made c rappy watches too
Hi Khandro....You have said ..."Robert Ingersol. He made c rappy watches too ".

Perhaps you or Theland is able to say where in the Bible this had been prophesied. I ask because Theland keeps insisting that all events in the world have been prophesied; but never gives any proof.

Hans.
Jim, //as God is clearly omnibenevolent //

That isn't clear at all ... but you know that. ;o)
"Please note that I don't actually believe any of what I just wrote"

:/
Jim, not so much of the sour face. See the wink?
Eh, fair enough.

*massive unsubtle wink*
@ Jim360.....It would be interesting to know where you stand in regards to Theland who appears to be unable to discuss matters in a responsible manner, but nevertheless appears to think that you are possibly an unquestionable believer as he is.

Hans.
I hope you don't mind, Hans, but I have no comment.
I do mind jim. I find it difficult to understand why you are avoiding matters as does Theland.

Hans.
