“Robert Powell: The Real Jesus of Nazareth” follows the actor made famous for delivering the on-screen portrayal of Jesus Christ in the 1970s. Powell and his team speak to historic and cultural experts to ask: “if Jesus existed, who was he? What would he have done? And where would he have done it?” – questions I’ve been exploring for years.

I’ve just spotted this programme so missed the first episode which was shown last Friday, but it’s a four part series and, for anyone who’s interested, I’ve checked and episode one is available. I look forward to seeing what it reveals – if anything.

Thanks for the info Naomi.

I have vague memories of watching his portrayal of Jesus (feel old now)

Will try to remember to watch it and will search for the first episode later today.

Morning alba. I downloaded the first episode this morning and have set the rest to record.
oops, forgot my manners.
Morning Naomi.

I look forward to reading your thoughts on it and subsequent episodes - a lot of your posts make me think about things. (in a good way, I hasten to add)

Haha! I'm so pleased you 'added' ..... hastily or not. :o)
Why this striking singularity or uniqueness in man if he evolved from the animals? Should there not at least be some small degree of self-awareness and death-awareness in those that are claimed to be the ancestors of man? Evolution cannot account for this uniqueness but God’s Word can. .—Gen. 1:26-28.
You what ?!?
What striking singularity or uniqueness in man and compared to other men or animals ? All species are unique. Every individual too.

Who do you think doesn't have self awareness ? Many species do, the ones who developed intelligence anyway. You have evidence of a lack of self awareness in your ancestors ? Or can you not conceive of growing intelligence, due to evolution, triggering such thoughts ?

How has the word of a deity, if a deity ever assented to give us it, come into anything ?

Best to watch these dramas and enjoy them for what they are, without reading too much into them.
Thanks for the info, Naomi....I think that Robert Powell is a superb actor, and remember watching Jesus Of Nazareth on ITV in the 70's when quite young, and thought it was brilliant. I have the Uncut 350'sh minute version on DVD in my collection, but there again on the other end of the scale, I also have all 5 series of The Detectives with Powell and Jasper Carrott, so how's that for diversity?...lol... will catch up on this episode this week and record the rest.
Thanks again, Naomi

I watched the first episode. Very disappointing indeed. Having spoken quite early on of the authenticity of Joseph’s ancestry and, without a moment’s thought, subsequently referring to Joseph as Jesus’ step-father, it was clear we weren’t going to get an unbiased investigation into the identity of the man Jesus. The historians came up with one of two interesting little bits, and because of that I will watch the rest of the series, but this programme has nothing much to offer any student who seeks to unravel the truth from the muddle of alleged ‘evidence’ we have available.

Goodlife, it’s clearly too cold for door-knocking today so if you want to add something useful on this thread, why don’t you tell everyone who you think Jesus was? You’ll no doubt surprise a few of them. ;o)

yogi-bear, you're welcome. I like Robert Powell too.

OG, this isn't a drama. It's a documentary interspersed with small clips of the 1970s 'Jesus of Nazareth' - which looks and sounds terribly dated. Dreadful script!
Proverbs 16:25. Your choice.
Question Author
Goodlife, why won't you tell the people here who you think Jesus was?
You arnt seriously expecting this numb nuts to answer that one are we Naomi ;-)
Can't you read the Bible then.
proverbs 16:25
//There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death.//
Don't know how to tell you this goodlife, but ALL life ends in death...
still avoiding naomi's question then goodlife?
Question Author
nailit, it strikes me that anyone intent on converting people to his way of thinking, as Goodlife is, really ought to be honest about his beliefs. Anything else is .. er …well … dishonest.

Goodlife, see above.
JW's honest about their beliefs? That would be a first!
