Khandro, such as anything that the religious post on here. Theland (for example) continuously posts about biblical prophecies but fails to address replies that might refute him, instead telling us to 'look it up ourselves'. That is not a debate, that is bailing out...
Nailit if I may say so , your question opens up with a bit of a p-take ,
" has the rapture happened or has reason taken over faith "
This may have put a number of people off from responding . I joined the question late when it had developed into a sensible debate .

Yeah ok benhilton, if a bit of humour offends you then best stay away.
Youre quiet right!
nailit; Once again, what are these "certain subjects" you want to discuss?
Khandro, from Nailit's post 19:02 I get the impression that one of them is the biblical prophecies that Theland bangs on about.
n.//I get the impression that one of them is the biblical prophecies that Theland bangs on about.//
Then we are not talking about the gospels?
Khandro, nailit mentioned the prophecies but I don't think he specified the gospels.
If Israel is Gods' timepiece, as many believe, then the news reflects bible prophecy. From the valley of bones to 1948. That is just one prophecy. Don't bother looking it up yourselves, but I can't write a thesis on here now can I?
Theland, A thesis? When a quick google reveals the prophecy you’re talking about and explains it in a few lines there's really no call for such drama!

//In his vision the prophet [Ezekiel] sees himself standing in the valley full of dry human bones. He is commanded to carry a prophecy. Before him the bones connect into human figures, then the bones become covered with tendon tissues, flesh and skin. Then God reveals the bones to the prophet as the People of Israel in exile and commands the Prophet to carry another prophecy in order to revitalize these human figures, to resurrect them and to bring them to the Land of Israel.//

So this is about the Jews returning to Israel in 1948. Okay, but if you really think about it reason dictates that fulfillment of this prophecy - having been a cherished ambition across the centuries and continually publicised - came to fruition not by the mighty hand of God but by the hand of modern day politicians. Nothing mysterious about it. Jesus fulfilled a prophecy by riding into Jerusalem on a donkey – but you can bet your boots his chosen mode of arrival was directly related to his knowledge of Zechariah’s ramblings from years before. Wanting to attribute experiences to the divine, as you do Theland, doesn’t render those experiences divine.
Oh well, modern day politicians are free of the divine influence of God? Well that's that sorted then.
Theland, clearly.
Theland - // Oh well, modern day politicians are free of the divine influence of God? Well that's that sorted then. //

The 'divine influence of God' is a conscious decision - everyone is free from it, unless they choose not to be.
"It’s Difficult to Make Predictions, Especially About the Future".

Niels Bohr? Samuel Goldwyn? Mark Twain? Anonymous?

Said by one of them (and Khandro)
I guess prophecies are only meaningful if the contents of them were unknown before the prophecy was fulfilled. Otherwise you always have the interesting question: would the prophecy have come true if no-one had known about it?

So, would Jesus have rode in to the city on a donkey had he not known of Zechariah? Would Israel have been created anew in the 20th Century regardless of ancient scriptures? Would Voldemort have tried to kill Harry Potter, thus creating his own worst enemy and giving Potter the powers to ultimately destroy him, had he never heard the prophecy that a baby soon to be born who would have the power to defeat him?

And so on.
Jim, //would the prophecy have come true if no-one had known about it? //

Precisely.
I'm glad you agree with me, although to be honest I was only looking for an excuse to throw in a Harry Potter reference to an R&S discussion.
Haha! He doesn't go down too well with some. The Devil's work!!
