Easter is a bigger deal in the Christian calendar than Christmas... but how many of you still celebrate it even if you're not religiously inclined?

By celebrate I mean anything from having the family round for a big roast dinner after spending the morning in church, to simply buying an Easter egg, or perhaps giving something up for lent?

For me Easter means a busy few days at work. I used to buy choc eggs for young kids in the family, but they've all grown up now.
We always have a leg of lamb and jersey royal potatoes on Easter Sunday. It's a family tradition started ages ago by one of my ancestors.

We don't do eggs though, as we are not chocolate eaters.
I celebrate Cadbury Creme Eggs!!!!!
I'll be bound to take the time off work and quite enjoy the four day break, but we will not recognise Easter in any way. We dont bother with chocolate eggs, or have a traditional meal or exchange gifts with anyone.
Easter is actually the renamed Pagan festival of Sex / Fertility and Childbirth celebrated in Spring by worshiping a representation of an erect Penis ( May pole) by dancing round it.
It predates Christianity by well over a thousand years .
Similarly Christmas is the renamed Pagan festival of Yule Tide which celebrates the Winter Solstice which heralds the return of Spring.
Maydup, perhaps you should celebrate Easter (Spring Festival) in the traditional Pagan way by haveing a good sh*g !

No but I enjoy the double bank holiday and the 4 day weekend.
Eddie, That's not only coarse, it's misleading. Easter and Christmas have no connection to pagan festivals – except that the timing of the Christian festivals was planned by early Christians specifically in order to offer those they were trying to convert continuity.
We don't do anything special at Easter - except eat fish on Good Friday - a throwback to the tradition of my childhood.
I don't celebrate.
naomi ,you prove my point. As no one knows the actual date of Christ's birth or death, the early Christian church ensured continuity by using the existing dates of pagan festivals for their festivals of Christmas and Easter.
Eddie,I haven’t proven your point. You’ve suggested celebrating Easter in the 'traditional Pagan way' – which would be utterly … erm … pointless..... and nothing whatsoever to do with Easter.
as in previous years, I have given up giving something up for Lent for Lent - easy
The Jews have been around for quite some time and it was a Jewish Festival (Passover) that Jesus was celebrating when he was captured, so I think it's fair to say we know when He died. Perhaps not the year but certainly the time of year.
I really like Easter it's a time for a gathering of family. Ma always sorts out a good feast for us all, although I'm not overly religious at all (brought up as RC)...

Ark ... just jots down easter eggs... before shopping.

... with new family members it will be different this year, it will be loverly to see them.
I confess to a liking for hot cross buns.

Easter has NEVER been in May (latest was April 25th), so you can hardly say that it has been hijacked from pagans maypole dancing.

Don't go confusing him with facts bhg ;o)
we dont celebrate Easter or Xmas
Same Volty, or mothers day.
