Do You Celebrate Easter Even If You're Not Christian?

Easter is a bigger deal in the Christian calendar than Christmas... but how many of you still celebrate it even if you're not religiously inclined?

By celebrate I mean anything from having the family round for a big roast dinner after spending the morning in church, to simply buying an Easter egg, or perhaps giving something up for lent?

Exactly woofie. The Last Supper was the Passover - a Jewish festival.

I think people have get-togethers at Easter because it's an extended weekend that most people are given time off work for.

Usually, but this year we will be traveling on the start of our holiday.

I grew up observing all the traditions, that was no hardship at all.

I'm less observant now being on my own, though as a family we still get together and often have a few days away too.

Chocolate has never featured highly.

Mrs B and I, being retired can go see Family anytime, we don't do Easter as such. Tash has two of her Sisters coming down for the weekend, they're always welcome, good fun.

Good Friday was always a solemn day. We could not have meat, only fish. The only shops which opened on Good Friday were fishmongers. Pubs kept Sunday hours. It seems to have died out now but the Three Hours Devotion from 12 till 3 was very common. People would come and go for an hour or so but as organist I had to sit there for the full three hours.

Used to give Easter eggs to our four children. Now they are grown we do not bother, or, try not to. My daughters still try for an egg.

I celebrate using the blood of Christ, usually Merlot.

It not just a religious occassion. Making it the national religion makes them all simply social events. Optional but under peer pressure and upbringing to join in. Any excuse for a knees-up.

The wife will buy easter eggs and I will tell her she is mad.

I celebrate chocolate all year round, but Easter eggs are particularly nice :-)

Well yes, we have 4 days off work for starters. We always have chocolate/eggs and tend to catch up with family.
