F A O Theland. Why I Dont Believe
191 Answers
In the Christian God.
Theland, you are always extorting ABers to 'look it up' with regards to the Bible and Christianity. And you seem to have a distorted view of non-believers. I would ask YOU to consider why people (like me) reject the Bible.
As a teenager, I became an evangelical Christian, of the born again variety. In my early 20's I seriously began to question my faith. I was an avid reader and read everything that I could get my hands on regard the Bible, apologetics, church history, Biblical archaeology, Bible commentaries etc. However over time I had to accept that my faith was based on nothing except a bunch of ancient, contradictory manuscripts. I questioned what was been preached from the pulpit. Hell, I questioned everything!
I prayed that if the Bible was the word of God that he would show me, unequivocally, that it was. He didn't. I left.
I am not a non believer because I want to sin
I am not a non believer because I'm in rebellion
I am not a non believer because Ive had bad experiences of church
I am not a non believer because I choose to be
I am a non believer in the Christian God because that's where my questioning led me.
Now at 52, I wonder just how I ever believed such junk as found in the Bible.
The Bible insults my Intelligence, My moral code, My sense of justice.
Do I have all the answers to life's big questions? No. Why would I be so arrogant as to think I did? But because humans know so little, that doesn't mean that we should go running to some ancient manuscripts written by bronze age, desert dwelling goat herders in the middle east thousands of years ago for answers.
Seriously Theland, take a break from You Tube evangelists and open your mind a bit. Question a little. (maybe even try to answer some of the questions put to you by fellow ABers without feeling persecuted)

That is not my idea of the kind of answers or comfort worth resorting to to fill those needs.
Theland, //Any explanation you might care to present to explain the universe, abiogenesis, evolution, consequently falls flat. You cannot defend your own thinking so attack mine. That is not very clever is it?//
I’ve not offered an explanation for the origin of the universe, but my question to you goes repeatedly unanswered.
//Why do you think you know who and what the creator (if one existed) is?//
Show us how clever you are by answering it. Why that God, Theland?

Nailit my deleted 'diatribe' was true from info you have given but your slur to me was a lie & remains on site. I only have my prayers for my ailing son to turn to for comfort. As medics say he has a rare condition? Of course you werent to know of my sensitivity at this time & I thank you for your good wishes.
Naomi - Why that God? I believe in the bible and the one true God is described there, Jesus His Son our Lord. I believe. That good enough?
But instead of trying to poke holes in other people's beliefs, why not share yours for scrutiny, and then defend them?
Just too easy to stir up the pot and then sit back and pontificate eh Nims?
Go on! What do you believe? What answers do you have for the big questions?

Mibs - Wittingly or otherwise, you depict yourself as walking through life in jaw dropping amazement at the wonders of our universe, always seeking knowledge and understanding.
You remind me of a character in Hess's, "Glass Bead Game," possibly the Magister himself.
But how do you really set about gaining this precious knowledge?
Do,you follow some spiritual path? Yoga? Some obscure religion? Or are you connected to the latest scientific research facilities like the L.H.C. and spend time in deep analytical study of experimental results?
Please do tell before you climb back up on your podium to look down on lesser mortals who don't process like you, a magic cloak and pointy hat.

Theland, //Why that God? I believe in the bible and the one true God is described there, Jesus His Son our Lord. I believe. That good enough?//
No, it isn’t good enough. You say your opinions are based on the bible but since you’ve never read it how can that be? Try reading it and then ask yourself why, if the God you claim to have been so powerful…. wasn’t.
Furthermore, if Jesus was the son of God that throws your amazing prophecy theory clean out of the window. Just why would an author chart a step-father’s genealogy? Hmmmm … What to believe?
//Go on! What do you believe?//
When you say ‘believe’ are you asking for my opinion or are you referring to an immutable belief – because if it’s the latter, when considering the unknown, that would clearly be an unwise stance to adopt.
So…. in my opinion, Jesus existed, he was a man born of a man and a woman, he was a devout Jew, he was a rebel, he was married, he was crucified by the will of the Romans, not the Jews, and he did not die on the cross.
//What answers do you have for the big questions?//
I presume you mean question, in the singular …. like how did the universe come into being? My answer to that question is and always has been I don’t know. There’s nothing wrong in confessing you don’t know, Theland …. if you don’t …. and you don’t.
Of course, my conclusions, like those of the evolutionary scientists you so despise, have only been formulated though years of extensive research. How did you come by yours?
