Matthew's interpretation of "prophecy" was contrived. The OT references were not (in the first case) a foretelling of the slaughter of the innocents, but descriptions of the Babylonian exile. And (in the second) a reminder of the exodus rather than the holy family's brief sojourn in Egypt.

the accuracy of bible prophecy is nil
If jesus said anywhere - oo it is rainninig out side , look!
and you look out your living room and it IS raining
then that is pure coincidence and not prophecy
