Atheists read the Bible and find plenty to criticise it.
However it so cleverly written, that there are levels of understanding at so many levels in even the most simple texts.
Many texts have been misunderstood for years until contemporary events have unlocked them.
This is worth more than instant dismissal by atheists.
Open minds?

koine Greek and not archaic - and there have to be interpretations - in the NY pais is used for slave ( often addressed as my boy) and the word for child is paidion ( a neuter but still used for boy and gurlz)

big big change 1890-1910 when the papyri were dug up and .... a lot the "NT Greek holy language" was found to be used in the street ( koine)

the other thing Theland is very keen on and I am not is the power or function of prayer in interpretation - or unlocking its secrets

Zacs, I can watch the same stuff from them over and over again and still laugh - and there are millions who do the same. Such an accolade to them. What a fantastic legacy they left to the world. The Bible wasn’t written as a single book, it is a compilation of many writings over several decades by many authors. As such there are many errors, and examples ofdifferent writers contradicting one another. To say it is deeply flawed is an understatement.

Now you may be in awe of it because it is alledgedly the word of God, but I would expect something far more coherent from the creator orof the Universe.

I can't ! Will you never understand, that what you deny is the God of the philosophers - the deity accessed by reason alone, as I said previously, many believers might deny such a deity too.
There is a deity which can not be accessed by rationality alone, and that is the one, as Pascal noted, who "sets the heart ablaze".

bible believers will not contradict the word as they see it ie the bible
to them god is watching, and knows all things, damnation awaits if they do..such a loving omnipotent deity, as long as you only believe in it and its word.. Khandro, this thread is about the bible, which is allegedly the word of god. That's why I was asking you what your god is like, since you said that I was talking about some god other than yours.

Atheist; If you were a student of the bible, you'd know it was about all sorts of things.

Like a fish swimming in the ocean, asking, "Where is the ocean?"
So we exist within God who created all and hold everything together, and using the fish as a metaphor, ask, "Where is God?"

And then there is, "In the beginning," (time - past, present and future), "God created the heavens, (three dimensional space), "And the Earth, (matter - gas, liquid and solid).

The atheist ignorance of the Bible, on which they base their criticism is breathtaking.

I hope none of them are solicitors or barristers, because they would be ignorant of their brief.
