The More I Learn About The Bible, The More Amazed I Am.

Atheists read the Bible and find plenty to criticise it.
However it so cleverly written, that there are levels of understanding at so many levels in even the most simple texts.
Many texts have been misunderstood for years until contemporary events have unlocked them.
This is worth more than instant dismissal by atheists.
Open minds?

We have an Internet capable of satisfying all of our enquirers.

I read it as a believer and found plenty to criticise. Stop being determined to be amazed and read what it really says.

As an atheist i cannot ever remember criticising the bible. I just don't believe anything written on it's pages.

Yes but there is more to the texts than the prima facie evidence.
Some secrets need a key to unlock them.
The Bible itself in Daniel explains this.
Don't presume to know all.

But the Bible promises that whoever searches for God with all their hearts and minds, WILL find Him.

He is not a tourist attraction, to be viewed and accepted or not by casual interest.

It doesn't work like that.

...that number, Theland, was what? This is a riddle. What is God telling us? Or asking? Or was St John six obsessed?

Theland, if, as you say many texts have been misunderstood for years, how do you know contemporary events have unlocked them. How do you know they're still not being misunderstood? Is it perhaps the "unlocking" agree with your thoughts so you accept them?

Why does God talk to us in riddles, Theland? Trying to live decently, or knowing how, ought not be an IQ test, should it? Morality is not about getting into Mensa, is it?

Vetuste - Quite right.
Many religionists will be rejected by God because unlike the loving decent compassionate others, who WILL be accepted by God, they did not feed the hungry, visit the sick or in prison, in other words, they turned their backs on the personification of Jesus, the neighbour or friend in need.

The more I learnt about the Bible the more amazed I became that people actually think it is a guide to living a good and moral life.

The reality is quite the opposite. It is nothing more than the bigoted musings of ancient arrogant ignorant misogynists who presumed their every thought was given to them by a supreme being.

The Bible i ambiguous and passages can be found to justify everything from brutal genocide to loving your enemies.

People will interpret the Bible to mean whatever they choose to want it to mean by searching with their heart and mind in the comtext of their predisposition.

That is why the notion of the Bible as the word of a god is a very dangerous concept.

Religions should be subject to the laws governing the making of false, misleading and unsubstantiated claims.
