Ritual Animal Slaughter.

Should our government outlaw the cruel practices of Halal and Kosher animal slaughter?
It is to me absolutely disgusting and no animal should suffer like this.

Another area of Belgium has already banned it (can't remember which, sorry). In the same article I was amazed to read the list of European countries in which it is already illegal.
I have been opposed to these practices for many years. A pig-farmer friend of mine (OK, not likely to be used for Halal) cares for his animals so much that he sought out a slaughterhouse where the animals trot about in a room where a sedative gas is released and then they just go to sleep and eventually die - rather like taking a cat or dog to the vet's at the end of its life. He went to see the process and is satisfied. His pigs are also free-range and I feel no guilt about eating any of his meat.
The B.V.A. has also come out against ritual slaughter and should be listened to.

//Sikh ritual slaughter is far more humane//
How is ANY slaughter of animals humane?
Its a bit like saying that theres a 'humane' way of raping a woman.
Im completely against Halal and Kosher but if we eat meat, then we must accept that an animal has to die against its will. And it WILL suffer. But Halal and Kosher do seem uneccesarily cruel in this day and age.
(BTW, how do you think that the innumerable Biblical animal sacrifices were carried out? They didn't have stun gun technology in them days)

//I’m never troubled by thoughts of all the animals being cruelly butchered, as meat eaters must be//
Im not troubled as such. I don't actually like the idea that nature basically eats itself to survive and reproduce itself. But it does and I must accept the obvious.
ALL of nature depends upon its survival on the death of something else.

I've found the article (politico something). Halal is banned in Flanders and 'traditional' slaughter is also banned in Sweden, Denmark and Slovenia. I'd like to point out that Islamic law says that people may eat non-halal meat where no-other is available and that is how the early immigrants to Bradford went on. It is not necessary.
