Do we agree that we don't actually know how the universe came about (though science is constantly closing the gaps in our knowledge) and that postulating bronze age creation myths as answers to the 'hard' questions is frankly insane and ridiculous?

It certainly can, jno. Scientists have often changed their minds on getting further evidence. However, nothing needs to be "disproved" if it was never proved in the first place.

Science doesn't prove conjecture, it tries to disprove it.

No,science tries to prove. And changes it's mind, if necessary. Nobody ever proves a negative.It is up to 'claimers' to prove their case first

The scientific method is about testing in order to disprove. You'd be hard pushed to prove anything we thing we know, to be true.
Spiritual belief can't be held to a higher standard.

There is materialism, otherwise known as the natural sciences, concerned only with the material universe we see and experience.
Then there is science, in its broadest sense that following the scientific method follows the evidence without fear or favour.
Sadly, I think these two get confused.

And any loud explosion must be in an existing universe, and there being no cause is unlikely within many times the lifetime of our present one so how likely is this disembodied voice to be accurate ?
I think someone might be trying to compare apples with Andromedian space cattle guano.

We know nothing with absolute assurity. We know many things way beyond any reasonable doubt, as science tests and denies where hypotheses are incorrect.
