The bible says anything you want it to say. Just make it up as you go along and you'll be fine.

Of course the atheists on here cannot refrain from mocking comments, no disappointment there.
Yes its good to give, but don't donate to the money preachers on TV. They are all scammers who use the bible to justify their greed.
Personally, I do not give to any religious outfit, preferring monthly payments to four non religious charities, and then making one off cash donations as and when I have the money to spare, to those in need.
I say these things so that you don't get ripped off by scammers.
In my experience, trust the bible completely, and give, even if it leaves you very strapped for cash, and put your faith in God that He will meet your needs.
When you give, you get more out of it than those you are giving to.
Take no notice of the mockers, give, and continue your walk with God.

Here our major "charities" are actually tax-free corporations run by boards whose members often get paid $1 M+. The amount of money collected that actually goes to the "cause" is usually less than 10%.
@ cleoval
Find something local like a food-bank, where you can see the results.
Definitely avoid the TV preachers. "Free set of steak-knives for your Fellowship gift."
