In World War 1, padres on both sides prayed to the same God - so how did He decide which ones to listen to ?

Perhaps God doesn't speak German, so he didn't know what they were on about.

It's a she, and they can multitask (although never when I ask for a threesome!)

So why does the Lord's Prayer begin Our Father
Heretics, obviously! I take it you're not serious, Canary.
He supported us because we are the goodies and the Germans were the baddies.
Because we won the footy match in no mans land Christmas 1914.
Maybe he helped both sides equally, thereby lengthening the war and ultimately leading to the untimely death of 20 million people.
21.23 , "Lest we forget" we won it again in 1966 , and have never won it again since,
Perhaps God doesn't speak German, so he didn't know what they were on about.

She identifies as male.
God is gender-neutral. Since the beginning there has been a typo - the prayer begins 'Our Fother...', rather than Father or Mother.
o god I thought you meant Proddies and Catholics
He listened to both
// Perhaps God doesn't speak German, so he didn't know what they were on about.//

no sorry he is omniscient - if he didnt know German then the God+german version wd be better
and one of the attributes is that he is immutable

and he is omnipresent just in case you thought he gave the Huns a miss
One lot were abusing his chosen people. Who do you think (s)he listened to ?

Great War and not second war if you read the O P
Ok. Missed the digit. Mea culpa. Will strive to do better next time.

Maybe it sat there just shaking whatever counts as a spirit head, and doing it's best to sigh.
World War 1 led to the final collapse of the Ottoman Empire and so freed the Holy Land from their rule. A vital step in making the creation of Israel in 1948 possible. That's why WW1 happenned
I wonder though if padres on either side prayed to win or if (more likely) prayed simply to help them get through the awfulness of it.

If indeed folk on either side prayed to win then I'd say He listened to both. Both got an answer. One answer was a "yes" and the other was a "no".

How or why He decides to answer things is something no human will ever know.
Eve, why do you call god 'him'? It might sound pedantic, but I think it's important.

So millions of young lives lost in order for an omnipotent deity achieve his goal?
