I can find reports of protests in China (albeit short-lived, it being China and all that), but I can’t find any more, so Theland appears to be right. Muslims elsewhere aren’t taking to the streets in their thousands as they do when cartoons are published in the west.

So, Theland, no turmoil in the Middle East; no Jihadists kidnapping innocent people and relieving them of their heads; no religious fanatics murdering people around the world in the name of that God; no tortured souls nailing themselves to crosses every Easter; no nutcases, Christian or otherwise, calling for the murder of soldiers, or doctors who perform terminations, or condemning people because they are different - and in a slightly lighter vein, no Jehovah’s Witnesses and Mormons knocking on your door. That wouldn’t make the world a better place? Are you sure?
Sounds like paradise to me Naomi.

What you are suggesting is ignoring objective standards of morality, and replacing it with personal subjective morality.
That would only work with programmed robots.
Where did I suggest that, Theland?
Theland - // What you are suggesting is ignoring objective standards of morality, and replacing it with personal subjective morality. //

If that makes naomi's scenario a reality, I'd be all for it - what sane person wouldn't?

Surely, your faith is based on your personal subjective morality - so you already have it anyway, and yet you say it like it's a bad thing.

No, God sets the standard of objective morality.

Theland - // No, God sets the standard of objective morality. //

Every single message Mankind has received from God has been via humans - men in fact, so it's open to interpretation.

You speak as if God has spoken, and everyone has heard what he has to say, and understood it, which is patently not true.

You can respond, and I expect you will, that the word of God is in the bible, but that was written by men, and to expect men not to swing things they way they want them to read is to deny basic humanity.

Hope you feel better.
Theland, //God sets the standard of objective morality.//

Who sets the standard for those who don’t follow that God then? Me for instance - or people who cling to faiths that don't recognise that God? Or are you suggesting we’re all devoid of morals? Furthermore, is it not a sad indictment upon the followers of the Abrahamic God that they are incapable of functioning in a morally responsible manner without what you deem to be guidance from a supernatural source?
//God sets the standard of objective morality.//

Make your mind up TL. Either S/He gave us free will to set our own morality levels or S/He is still controlling mankind, therefore is responsible for all if human behaviour, good or ill.

Also, if God sets our level of morality, why do different people have different morality levels? It makes no sense.
//God sets the standard of objective morality//
Part of my rejection of Christianity came from questioning the morality of the Bible. It took me a long time to admit (religious indoctrination being what it is) that my own morality...and with all my character flaws... far exceeded the morality of the God of the Bible.
If you need to be told what is right and what is wrong by an ancient tome, then I suggest that your own morals leave something to be desired. Something to think about.

BTW, Hope you feel well soon.
