There are millions of people who profess no religion nor any belief in a god. They are atheists. Others, agnostics, believe that God is unknown and probably unknowable. Maybe it stems from the fact that it is human nature to worship something or someone. The Bible actually states that it is the obligation of man to fear God.

idio, that's a very depressing thought. Do you believe that there is a god who wishes to be feared? If so, no wonder that some allegedly revolted against him or her. Would you respect or love someone who said that it was your duty to fear them? I think it's just another indication that the bible writings were made by men with the aim of dominating others.
