My sons G/F is pregnant.
Her Uncle is a pastor.
He's just stated that the baby (my grandson) is a product of sin.
You just got to love these people of faith havnt you?

During an impassioned sermon about death and final judgement, the pastor said forcefully, "Each member of this church is going to die and face judgement." Glancing down at the front pew, he noticed a man with a big smile on his face - the man was called Nailit. The minister repeated his point louder. "Each member of this church is going to die and face...

nailit - // The mother needs to have it explained to her that she is carrying a life, not a collection of slime cells. //

Rather than talking to the expectant mother as though she is an eight-year-old with a personality disorder, you need to talk to her and explain that the choice is hers, and no-one else's.

Regardless of the views on abortion from complete strangers, it is a mother's right, and her right alone, to decide if she will carry her pregnancy to term, and it is her decision, because it is her body that has to carry to result of the choice either way, and it is her mind that has to carry the consequences of the pregnancy, again, either way.

It's all well and good for lofty Christian principles preached by those who have no input into the ongoing life of the mother, but they should be ignored completely in favour of practical and emotional support which all expectant mothers need at this time.

Support and help to reach the right decision for the mother concerned will always trump the moralising of conceited faith peddlers who have no business meddling in the lives of others.
Pastor or not he should now be the Uncle we don't associate with.
Of all the issues going on in your life, this should not even be worth a thought.
I concur with Andy. Well put. Explain both sides of the consequences of her decision. How it will affect her to struggle bringing up a baby, and how it might affect her if built kicks in at term imaging s life. Yes her decision entirely, but armed with accurate information and support, and not using ill chosen words as I have done, I'm afraid, and confess.
Every baby born so far was planned by God who knew the exact moment of its conception and birth; and every single one of them was created in the image of God. Nobody, I mean nobody is a mistake
....and then some get killed in war, murdered, starved, abused...
...and yet others live a life of delusion, denying basic biology in favour of ghost stories...
Spoken by somebody who sounds like there is something he/she knows and we don't. Enlighten? ∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆
Theland, it would help if you referenced the poster you are replying to.

Fiveleaves, you are aware that several times in the Old Testament that God ordered that fetuses were to be ripped from the womb of enemy tribes?
Maybe not...
Its not something that pastors preach on....

If you or Theland want a few dozen verses or examples, just drop me a post.
Oh yes do! Brightens up a dull evening!
If your conscience requires the sacrifice of rationality to hedge your bets on the afterlife, fill your boots, Lando, but an omiscient god will be watching and see you for the double-standard that you so obviously are.

Beer?
Dear Douglas,
Sadly beer and I have parted company. (I know, its sad).
Double standards eh? How so?
I'm actually very comfortable with the God I'm whom I believe.
Nice thoughts though my friend.
Have one for me :-)
Fiveleaves, //Every baby born so far was planned by God who knew the exact moment of its conception and birth; and every single one of them was created in the image of God. //

Including conjoined twins and babies born with severe disabilities and/or disease presumably. Some plan. The architect has nothing to crow about.
Some aspects of life and suffering are a complete mystery.
Very good points raised though.
This is something else I want to look into.
A fallen world doesn't really cover it does it?
It's ridiculous for fiveleaves to blame all unwanted pregnancies on "God". Nowadays, there aren't many Virgin births.... it just looks like a lack of responsibility.
Theland, the only 'mystery' is how you manage to worship a god that allows all the suffering in the world.

I have no issue, bad stuff happens.

How you worship your god and actually believe he loves us (!) - that's the biggest mystery right there.
