Former Believers
47 Answers
leaving a faith...and in turn, your friends, community and social group...can be one of the hardest things that anyone will ever have to do.
I left my christian faith and in turn had to loose my friends (I use that term losely now) and to some degree my identity.
It was traumatic to realise that I had been wrong for so many years and it was traumatic to try and carry on in life as though nothing had happened. But something HAD happened. My world-view had changed.
For the evangelicals on here who berate my atheism and threaten me with hell and damnation for not believing as you do (albeit in a more 'backdoor way') I have once been a believer as you are now. I have also 'preached' the prophecies of the Bible. I have more than likely read all of the same books that you have.
So Please dont try and convert me with all the same, old, tired arguements and apologetics.
Either accept that Im an apostate beyond redemption, OR (and here's a novelty) give me some evidence for God?
(I didn't give up Christianity easily)

Every way.
Whatever is necessary to get the message across.
Now you can pick me up on how I speak?
Desperation indeed!
''Eh lad! D'yer think this lot created itself? Grow up lad! Nothing cones from nothing! Clear?
And by the way, I'm sticking to my guns regardless of the abuse it attracts. So there! Wanna talk some more mate?''

//Nailit it seems you post many questions than anyone in R&S, so if you wish Christians to ignore you, why ask the questions to start with?//
Where have I said that I wish Christians to ignore me? Why are you making things up?
If I ask a question of a Christian, I expect a response (As I would from anyone else) so stop straight away with your unfounded assumption.
//You say you are a former Christian. Can I ask how your life has worked out since leaving Christ out if your life?//
The same way that leaving out Allah, Buddha, Zeus or Krishna would have done. But obviously, your snidey implication is that my own problems have been bought about by 'leaving Christ'? Trust me! My own problems started way before my teenage conversion.
//Do you feel completely at peace regarding the future? Are you psychologically secure? //
No, and Im always searching. So?
//Are you free from addiction?//
No. And a lot of Christians I know are not either...or other religionists. My addictions may be chemical, but there are other addictions too you know...
//Do you seek to live at peace with others?//
Everyday mate, everyday!
Seeking peace with others is NOT a Christian thing. Its a Humanity thing. (Wonder if your fellow religionists seek peace with others? You know? Like with atheists or muslims?...just a thought)
//Are you free from bitterness towards others? //
No, but always working on it.
I was sexually abused by a teacher in the 70's. He's probably dead now. Just seek to understand why. Cant actually say that Im bitter...just let down that God didnt intervean when he was touching me up but apparently its my fault that I'm bitter.
(Blame the victim eh?)
//Is living a godless existence giving you the fulfilment and mental settlement you appear to be seeking?//
Thats like asking 'Is living the Buddherless existance (Or the Zeusless existance, Or the Allahless existance or the Thorless existance) giving me any fullfillment or mental settlement?
You'r kidding me, right?
//Do you feel life has a meaning and a happiness that you wish to celebrate with others?//
None what so ever.
My lifes mine. Share my ups and downs or dont, but dont dare to pretend to be a friend in order to get me to your way of thinking.
Had enough of those over the past 50+ yrs.

Some far away day if humanity manages to survive.
Historians will be astonished at the gullibility and naivety that was commonplace amongst the superstitious and the fearful. The pathetic attempts to make the words of men, seem to have be issued from a deity that had their benevolence and welfare at source.
You are your own God, your own Devil, and your own universe.

Nailit: "Where have I said that I wish Christians to ignore me? Why are you making things up?" I didnt know you had said that- it just seems that you post and then wonder why you get responses. If you don't post aimed at Christians, you won't get responses from Christians. It's not rocket-science.
As for the answers to my questions, they speak for themselves. If you seek Him, you will find Him. He is waiting for you. But hey, if you wish life to carry on as it has done since you left Christianity, that's your decision. I just find it a bit sad you have been posting this anti-God stuff since 2012 and still can't find peace about it.
As for wanting to change anyone to another way of thinking, that works both ways. Your very unconvincing anti-God arguments and tragic experiences seem to point up a soul seeking after the God who you turned against, and deny existence of. I could be utterly and completely wrong, and hope I am. Have a lovely evening, and just remember- if you post things on here trying to provoke others, don't be surprised when they reply.
"Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me." Rev 3:20
