Young Earth.

If there any young earth creationists here, I'd be interested to hear why you hold that view. I'm not looking for a squabble, just seeking to understand where you are coming from.

I can't see Theland making any claims on this thread, or quoting Genesis. And also making no reference to carbon dating. Are you referring to a different thread, Naomi?

It appears from reading the answers that there are no "young earth creationists" who have responded to the thread. From the little I understand of "young earth" creationists, Seventh Day Adventists are the only "mainstream" group who seem to believe it, after it was promoted by George McCready Price.
Stableford, Theland mentioned carbon dating in the first post on this thread - and no, he hasn’t quoted Genesis - but he does post links to an American Christian apologist organisation that enthusiastically champions the Young Earth theory. That organisation is called ‘Answers in Genesis’, which is what I referred to.

Or indeed, give one individual snake vocal chords!
(Oh, and a donkey a few centuries later...the Bible's very own Mr Ed!)
And then the evangelicals get hung up on discussing the 'science' of the Bible and quote answersingenesis as 'proof'....
Greek mythology adequately explains lightening.
It was Zeus's thunderbolt. No need for science to get involved, it was explained thousands of years ago.

Thanks Nailit. In answer to Atheist's question, I believe that the earth was formed by God over the course of billions of years. I see no conflict between that and the Bible narrative which describes our current creation and God's dealings with man. I believe He created men in 6 literal days as described in Genesis. I studied geology at a basic level and I think anyone would be hard-pressed to say the actual earth, ie the mountains etc, were formed in anything less than many millions of years. But that's only my personal belief.
To spot it, you need to forget what you've been taught and just read what's there, Stableford.
Chapter 1 - God finished his work, including the creation of man [possibly a race of men?] 'in his image'.
Chapter 2 - God found there was no one to work the ground - a gardener - and so he created Adam 'from the dust of the ground'.
