All I do know is that when things get so bad in life that you can't see anything at all in a positive light, someone else comes along, with circumstances a hundred times worse than mine, smiling, happy, bright-eyed, blessed. These people are the ones that show us how life can be lived. It doesn't mean we aren't always going to experience tragedies, times in life when we are going to feel bitter towards God, or just sheer depression at the realities of life. But it does mean that, however low things have got, there is still hope. That, for me, is the essence of what God is. But don't take my word for it- look around, the examples are everywhere.
Thanks Pix- I think it was the original poster who brought God into it, but anyways...! When I see goodness, truth, overcoming adversity, hope, life, light, forgiveness, joy, encouragement, satisfaction- I see God. But that's just me- and I am not arrogant enough to say that I am right and you're wrong- I can only make any sense of the world, the physical and the spiritual, through my own experience. I would love to see the young lad in Syria go on to live a wholesome and fulfilling life, and that he turns to people like Jesse and Nick for inspiration.
Mamya, difference of opinion is usually healthy, in my view. As long as it doesn't descend...
Just out of interest, I looked after a family once, who were "strict Christians". Totally lovely and down to earth... but they never said, and I didn't directly ask... what brand they were.
Apparently, not Amish. But- no technology, Internet etc, no make-up or hair cuts for women. Head scarfs in public, and for the men, suits on Sundays and church.
Any ideas?
