Might I suggest that you read some works by Austin Osman-spare or Peter Carroll if you are serious about ivestigating Kaos, likewise Robert Anton-Wilson,Carlos Castenada ( esp if you are up for a laugh).
Perhaps something which might "nutshell" it for you is
this quote by Peter Carroll,as it can be all things to all people at any given time.
"It takes only the acceptance of a single belief to make someone a magician. It is the meta-belief that belief is a tool for achieving effects."
It's startlingly simple once you get your head around it, but I imagine as a committed Christian you will reject the idea utterly, as it will clash heavily with your own ideas, but I'd be glad to discuss it at length having practised Kaos for a number of years and found it very helpful on every level.

Noxlumos - I haven't yet followed up reading about kaos magick, just haven't had time.
You are probably right in saying that I will suspect it to clash with my Christian beliefs.
I was interested to see you mention Carlos Castaneda - I read two of his books over thirty years ago, Ixtlan and I think the other was the teachings of Don Juan.
I remember some of the stuff in there but not all.
At the time I was quite naive and unfortunately taking drugs, which altered my perception, to something akin to the world view that Castaneda shared.
Castaneda wanted to be a warrior as I remember, and therefore his quest was for power, which these days is the opposite to my ambition.

The application of your desires is what Kaos is about. If you desire to be "not a warrior" then apply it in that method, it's dead simple. All things to all people. To quote the often misguided but very talented Aleister Crowley
"Do what thou will shall be the whole of the law", often mistaken for meaning you can please yourself and do whatever you like.
It does mean that, but with that self determination comes the God-like responsibility for every knock on effect your actions have. Total responsibility for your actions should enable you to be the best person you possibly can. sometimes people misunderstand and don't take that seriously, but at this point my entire life is like a game of chess. I think through the smallest detail to the umpteenth place so as to negatively impact on people as little as possible. this doesn't have a huge amount to do with Kaos actually, but it is a useful tool in what has become my lifestyle.
