It's hard to believe that everything came from absolutely nothing - but if there is a creator, the question is who created him/it? Perhaps evolution only kicked in after original creation - and perhaps the creator is eternal, although eternity is a difficult concept.
jenstar>/b> is right. People 'believe in' creation because there is nothing to support it except belief - it is a personal decision to accept something that has no rational basis.
One doesn't 'believe in' evolution any more than one 'believes in' electricity, heavier-than-air flying machines, penicillin or pictures by radio. It does not need blind faith, just reason.
I think naomi has widened the question. I don't think any evolutionist believes that life came from nothing. The best bet is that very primitive life came from the coming together of the necessary chemicals. As soon as it could reproduce, later complex life arose automatically and inevitably due to the evolutionary process.

You know me Chakka - I always widen the question. If we're talking about life on earth, then it's feasible that it evolved from a combination of the necessary chemicals. However, if we're talking about the creation of the universe, we have to ask where those chemicals came from. We can go back as far as we like, but in the end (or in the beginning(?)), there is no answer, because nothing comes from nothing.

ne2... we are still evolving. You can see this in a very simple way if you compare the average height of humans beings over the last few hundred years. We are (on average) much taller now than we were in the Tudor times.(ever been in an old Tudor house...you have to duck under the doors).Evolution doesnt occur in a matter of days.
