How do anthiests believe the world started?
There are only a couple of possibilites really.
To say you dont believe in god must mean you believe we are here through some other force, but evolution is a load of made up crap. You say believing in god is far fetched, but i think believeing in evoultion is even more far fatched.

While you're at it you could also tell us where you think God came from.
After all you can say God made the Universe and it's unknowable where he came from and someone else says there's no God and where the Universe came from is unknowable - then the only difference is you've invented an additional God that the other person hasn't.
They're both just intellectual surrender

Why do you say evolution is a load of made up crap? Science can prove that the earth is millions of years old and when you consider how life has evolved even in the last few centuries I don't think there is anything crap about it.
Do you seriously believe that there is an entity which created the earth and the universe just like that? Like jake says - where does this god come from?
By the way I am not an atheist - I am prepared to believe that there is the possibility of a god but I do believe in evolution.

'From nothing, to nothing', which does brin the possibility of God, part of the Jewish service says, 'God is, God will always be, and God always was'.
I can possibly go along with the first two, but 'always was'?, just how long, in our time, do you think he was there, before he got bored with his own company, and for his own amusement, created us?,
As for Evolution, its fact, certain religionists now say that Evolution is all part of Gods plan.

If your pet dog ever wonders about how the room lights up when you put your hand to the plastic square thing on the wall, would you bother to take the time and trouble to explain it all to him? Or would you consider such an explanation beyond his capability to understand?
So how come we in our arrogance demand to know the answers to the ultimate questions, when we simply do not have the savvy to take it all in?

calm down peeps..
Evolution is not conclusive. The theory is flawed and more time goes on the more doubtful it gets.
Do i seriously believe an entity created the earth..Yes i do. cause that would explain why strawberries tastes so beautiful in july and why blackberries taste like heaven in september. Someone or something knew me well. Probabilities of everything ending up like this seem remote.
I imagine god has always been in some form or other. The human boundaries or beginning and time probably dont apply to him. he's god. If he created the universe then how he came to be is just a drop in the ocean, another question unanswered at present time due to uncomprehendability. Unless i was god himself theres no way i could know where he came fom.

Is that it then?
You don't believe in Evolution because you can't comprehend it?
A bit like Thelands analogy of the light switch and the dog. The dog cannot get his mind around how it works yet it does.
Forget that for a moment Theland intended the light switch as God and the dog as humanity because it can as easily be that the light switch is Evolution and you are the dog.
You cannot conceive of the eons of time and events that has resulted in you yet they have.
The Pope thought Gallileo's ideas about the Earth going around the sun far fetched too - incredulity doesn't make something right or wrong - it's simply not something to base an opinion on
I dare say lottery winners sit and consider the improbability of their numbers coming up in the same way.

jno....you dont sound like the type to appreciate tastes of fruits in season, its very acquired. you have to know just when to pick. A week to early and it could be disguisting, some people just dont understand how to enjoy the simple things in life.
Whats does that mean "you dont believe in evolution because you dont understand it" Of course i understand i choose not to believe it, cause i refuse to believe in something that is all based on a inconclusive theory. Being honest id probably drive myself mad if i thought of the eons of time and events happening in me. What about the the other 60 million people that lost the lottery i bet probabilty mattered to them, and the probability is that someone has to win, thats how its designed.I thought theland analogy was spot on.

Not fully conclusive. There are some flaws here or there. FAITH makes up for that though. If god puts all the answers right under our noses then we would have no choice but to believe. God wants us to love him through our own free will, our own choice, thats the only way to achieve unconditional love. Neither theory is technically conclusive or proofable, i suppse its up to each individual to choose. Whichever way to me, the proof lies in the puddin. If we teach children they came from animals they will probably grow up like animals. Theres nothing like a healthy fear of god to keep us our best behavoiur.
As I said earlier, 'From nothing' problem is, assuming that once upon a time, there really was nothing, then there's no God, because even if God is the almighty creator, in the beginning, there was nothing, and nothing is just that.
Now, if there was something, (God)?, as luna-tic asks, whoor what created God?

wow, I'm a believer in a Creator. But Jake-the-peg's question about where God came from opened new questions for me.
I have to admit the question is too deep for me to offer an answer.
All I can say is for the sake of my inner peace and love of others, I will continue to believe there is a greater power. One that helps me to accepte life's ugliness amongst its beauty.
I like the saying, "it's not that roses have thorns, but thorns have roses."
