People who turn to psychics at times like these are setting themselves up for more heartache. They often say that they are in contact with the deceased so why doesnt the deceased just tell them where therir body is and who killed them? The fact is, these psychics know, no more than joe soap. Half the time they are in fact a hinderence to the police and ought to be charged with wasting police time if they are wrong (which mostly they are)
i would still give it a whirl tho, you just never know, but how would you know who's for real and who's not? I wish I was a medium..

..but Im a small
It would be very difficult to find someone who could really help.

A psychic medium could help - it just depends whether any of their contacts is prepared to talk. If anyone worth their salt had received any information they would have passed it on already - if they felt it was appropriate to do so.

I personally would try anything at all to get resolution - whether it produced results or not.
I would try anything in their position and although I am sceptical, it is widely known that the police employ the services on mediums!
And how do you know this for sure Wizzard6?

I don't know how to insert a hyperlink yet, but have just picked one topic of internet and copied it .... again, conflicting views....

"Vernon J. Geberth, author of Practical Homicide Investigation, devotes five pages to how police officers can (and do) work with psychics, but Barry Fisher, in Techniques of Crime Investigation, equally as renowned to law enforcement, ignores the entire issue.

The answer is we don't know, but i happen to believe that what would they have to lose in a difficult case, as long as it was never official
No, these charlatans prey on the vunerable and are sick.
toby, I would have to ask, how many cases have been solved by 'psychics'? Any links giving a precise answer would be appriciated
Wizard - I thought your debate was whether the police used mediums/psychics, which i still believe they do and I am sure we can both dig up conflicting info regarding this.

As to whether psycics solve cases..... that another story and one, like i said before, i am too sceptic of, but you have now got my interest Wizard and will have to do some digging.

Great debate Jane!
toby..dont get me wrong. I dont deny that psychics CLAIM to help the police, I just havnt seen any evidence that they actually do. In fact, all the evidence points away from it.
Many years ago I believed that there was something in it but after years of research (into the paranormal, the occult, supernatural, philosophy, religion and psychology) the only conclusion that I can draw is given in the post I gave at the beginning.
Yes I would . but I would not necessarily use one that came to me. I would choose my own psychic.
I do believe the police use psychics on occasions, but even so they have to have hard evidence to prove what the psychic has told them. All psychics work in different ways.
The police will not admit to using their services because of the scepticism that exists. Personally I think that if Kate can feel Madeleine around her, then she probably is. I have seen some amazing things in spiritualist churches and I have a friend who is psychic. i had known him for a long time before he told me about it. He is a perfectly normal businessman, nothing remotely odd about him.

i asked this question to my other half and he doesn't believe in any psychics etc but put in this situation he would try anything. that could be his daughter out there....what father wouldn't.
I wouldn't try a psychic as I don't like fairy stories. Would the McCanns try one? Depends on what they know and what we don't !
Weeal - thanks for that link. I found it very interesting. But it did not surprise me as I have always known that some people have psychic abilities.

thanks toby. i think everyone needs to try to be open minded, to give it a go,

whats the point of sitting there worrying when someone could give you hope. i rather have hope than lose faith.

if they go through you and not the police and its what you want then it cant be a hinerence..can it wizard?

i too have a friend who's psyphic sambro, and have known her for 34yrs. nothing odd about her neither
If my daughter disappeared I would turn heaven and earth to find her. And i would take the help of any willing party.
If my daughter were missing, I would do whatever was in my power to find her.

However, this clearly wouldn't involve the use of psychics since they are all, 100%, without exception, no excuses, whether self-deluded or actively fraudulent, bogus.

I would far rather do something that might actually find my daughter than waste time and effort on one of those charlatans, getting my hopes up only to see them dashed when it turned out - ta -dah - to be a load of hokum.
Why would they need to go see a psychic?

If the psychic was any good, and I, like many are very sceptical of any merit in that direction, then why wouldnt they just tell the police anything they discover and let them follow the lines of enquiry? Then if it was false, incarcerate them for a very long time.

If a psychic wanted to meet the McCanns directly then this would be purely self-promotion, jumping on the band wagon, immoral, unhelpful and ultimately damaging.
