I believe that true contentment can only be achieved by total self sacrifice, living ones life for the benefit of others.
I reach this conclusion by looking around me at the two extremes.
On the one hand, the poverty stricken servant of all, religious or not, who derives pleasure from helping others, in whatever capacity.
On the other hand, the super rich celebrities and mega millionaires, who are often in the news for all of the reasons associated with self centredness.
The former has a very simple life and is the happier for it.
The latter has a very complicated life, and happiness appears to elude them.
Conqering our desires seems to be the key to true humanity.
If God was disproven to me, then I presume what I have said would still hold true, so I would work on that, trying to keep life simple.
However, my duties to family seem to ensure that life is far more complicated than I would like it to be.
Well, that's a start I suppose.
