She was naive, but I can't imagine for a moment it occurred to her it would be an insult to Islam. To be honest, with Mohammed being sauch a popular name, I can't say I wouldn't have been just as naive in the circumstances. Having said that though, I wouldn't have gone to teach in such a country in the first place.
"Jesus" is irrelevant in this context. the name Jesus was (and, for all Iknow, still is) a very common Jewish name, equivalent to Joshua, and not particularly special to the chap associated with Christianity.
In any case I gather he got his name because, on entering the stable, one of the Wise Men bashed his head on a low beam and exclaimed "Jesus Christ!", to which Mary said "That's a good idea. We were going to call him Sid."
(Just a joke. There was no stable and the Wise Men visited the baby at home.)

Mohammed and Jesus are common names of old and new in various parts of the world. Jesus (Hey Zeus!) is very common in Spain. You dont see any kids on the estate called Buddha, but I am sure it is only a matter of time. Perhaps when the Joshuas and Jacobs have grown up to at least 12 years old and had children of their own.
I was called Buddha once, but that was my fat phase, which has been for the last 8 years. And I WAS offended!

I can't add any more than certain people have already said, but Buddha is a state of being where one realises their own enlightenment, it was never a name. Buddha was called Siddartha Gautama and you never see Buddhists picking fights with their attackers as pointed out elsewhere. There's a lot we could all learn from them.
