A motion calling for the disestablishment of the Church of England has been numbered 666 - the number of the Beast.

Hi naomi, my husband was killed on the 06/06/1981, the police/coroner, put the time of his death at, 06:00, now that is spooky, love and hugs, megan. xxxxxxxx
Coincidence or someone who does the numbering having my kind of sense of humour.

Btw, I've asked this before but I swear I read somewhere that 666 is not the number of the beast but something else... I just wish I could remember what/where/who/how I came about that slippage of information... anyway.... back to the question..

My friend Adam once showed me something to do with barcodes.... but I forgot that too... does anyone here speak China Doll and know what I'm on about? Please? (I just want to add it to the thread as at the time I thought it was spooky). Also if you turn a back marlboro lights upside down and read it, then it implies a rather nasty thought.
There's another thread around here that says the number of the beast is "616".

Yes the barcode thing is:

"No-one could buy or sell unless he had this mark, that is the beast's name or the number that stands for his name".

However, it is a bit of an urban myth.

I think as well Stephen Fry said something in his QI book about the number been 616 - I could be mistaken as I havent the book anymore
There's something else about the bar code thing too... to do with the longer lines.... I really wish I wasn't indulging in red wine whenver I have these conversations!

Thanks to Daf for the link... under the mathamatics section are some things to do with numbers that I was thinking about. Did anyone ever watch that film the posession of (I think) Emily Rose? Anyway, in that they say that although midnight has been considered the witching hour in the past it's actually 3am. I now hate being awake at 3am.
Statistically speaking, 3 am is the time most comonly associated with deaths; heart-attacks predominantly..........

So thank your lucky stars to still be here at or after 3am, CD :o)
Im not convinced. If you are here on AB at or after 3am, the only reasonable excuse is that you are in a different time zone anything else requires professional help, maybe even an exorcism.

i sure that stephen fry said it was 611 on qi
and that the moscow bus company changed the no. 666 route to no. 611
3eight... I think it's a coincidence more than anything but then I know little of the urban myth it came from. However it looks like it could read horrible jew. But the human brain does have a capacity to find patterns in the strangest of things.
No it was definitely 616:

I agree with ND... that's why I only smoke the ones that have labels saying they effect your sperm count.
squarebear i stand corrected sorry
Another urban myth. The myth held that the Ku Klux Klan owned all, or a major part of, the company that made Marlboro Lights, and the symbols on the sides of the Marlboro represented 'K,K,K', as well as Marlboro upside down being seen, by some, to read 'Orobl Jew'. Also, when the Marlboro pack is upside down, as you cover the top half of the letters, you can allegedly see an image portraying a man and a midget being hanged; finally, if you look between the legs of the prancing horse the white outline resembles the infamous Ku Klux Klan hood. These allegations are unfounded and the sure sign of a vivid, if not deranged, mind.

You really ought to stop chatting up these random urban mythters in late night bars China.
There's a good bit in daffy's wikipedia link explaining the work at Oxford University that found the number as 616 on the very earliest papyrus samples.

Previously unreadable they can be read when viewed with special techniques.

Of course finding errors in the bible like this is a bit of a problem for Bible literalists who I'm pretty certain would reject this
Haven't looked jake, is it about the number for the Emperor Nero? Its an old one innit? New techniques indeed!
