Just because of all the hurt in the world and the apparent pointlessness of it all when you think about it. Without going too far, let's just mention for example all of the people who can't eat properly and just sit about waiting to die in Africa and that. And there's loads of other stuff too.

Naomi - Fear of God is the beginning of wisdom, wisdom is the key to unlocking the ability to love and be loved.
Be there a god or not we are born with the tools to make life better and those who do better are born with emotions, these should enable them to help those who are suffering or in a stickier situation than them.
I one hundred percent believe in an afterlife, Im not entirely sure that my CHristian upbringing has taught me that I am going to the right afterlife but I believe that there is where we will truly feel what its like to be loved by God!

Theland, thank you, you're right. I am troubled - but I've heard all about couches (especially the casting kind) and if you think I'm going anywhere near your couch, you can think again!

Fear of God is the beginning of wisdom, wisdom is the key to unlocking the ability to love and be loved. Who told you that?

Goodsoulette, I too believe the soul survives death, but that hasn't anything to do with the biblical God. He doesn't exist. People exonerate this God by saying the ills of the world are man-made, and most of them are, but if he is so wonderful and so loving, why, for example, does he condemn some to be born terribly handicapped? That's not man's doing. I find it very sad that people trust in something so totally untrustworthy.
Why should we be motivated by fear? That feels wrong to me. The Buddhists beleive that we all have an inherant goodness, wheras the Christian ethic says we are all inherantly bad (original sin). I would rather be motivated by love - and I mean genuine love and respect for human beings.
Everyone worships their own God in their own way.
If there is a God, and I am not being judgemental here, why is there so much bitterness, fighting and world wide natural disasters happening?
I would have thought that if all the people who are praying to so many different Gods that at least one of them would be listening!
God cannot end bitterness or fighting, only we can.....
Agreed..... What about natural disaster, such as the recent ones in Burma and China?
If this God is so wise and just and compassionate then I would hope that he would want to know why you considered him to be an a$$hole and have a reasoned discussion. Any God who can't be questioned isn't worth bothering with.
AS cruel as it may seem could disabilities and illnesses be some kind of test of our "humanity". I don't have all the answers, I just know that I feel something.
Yes, I know what you mean Goodsoulette - but I'm convinced that the God of the bible isn't what human beings 'feel' because they've only learnt about him from other men - and often they're men with an agenda. We need to dispense with all the superstition and fear that is implanted into impressionable minds, and you've given an excellent example of that when you talked about 'a test for humanity'. We need to look at things in a far simpler way. Jesus said Love one another, and that, and a personal 'oneness' with nature and the universe is all humankind needs.

Say then, you did call him an a/h, do you think he'd actually take it thick and would he be within his right to punish you? Or do you feel he may actually have a debate with you and convince you that your were wrong and in some way justify his decision making and actions? Just wondering what people think about how much we can stand up to god as I thought to do so was certain death, am I wrong?
As I said before I think (if he exists) that this God should be questioned. I don't hold with all this all powerful and untouchable bit. And as for fearing God - why should we? It's like saying he will throw a tantrum if he doesn't get his own way and I can't imagine this God having a hissy fit and stamping his feet if someone had the audacity to question him
Question Author
Why not? He's done it before.
Mmm .... his history does show him to be prone to throwing tantrums if he doesn't get his own way.

Bensmum, I never understand why people who claim to love him, do in reality, fear him. Love and fear do not go hand in hand. Theland says 'Fear is the beginning of wisdom', but is it? I would say differently. Fear creates suppression.
Actually - come to think of it there probably have been tantrums. I agree naomi - love and fear do not go hand in hand and I have never understood why this God should be feared.
Going on his track record, I can well understand why those who believe in him fear him, but I can't understand why they say they love him. Probably too afraid not to.
Fear has a broader meaning than simply being scared. Awe comes close.
So you dont believe in God, but end up finding he did exist, then you would take the greatest leap in faith to assume that He was responsible for all of creation and all the ills of the world and thus berate Him for it?
When a child does not want to do something his /her parents asked him not to. Why does he do it, when a trust worthy man or woman defies having an affair out of marriage why do they do that.

Do they fear their parents/partners or do they love and do not want them to feel bad about them as they let them down.

Just like that God created human and of course every thing else and told them through his messengers (with an agenda according to few here) what to do and what not to do. And yes the agenda of those men was to tell people what God wanted from them. If we human are not doing that then it is us who are to blame. When it will come to the power of God then this world have and will see that there is no injustice there. We might think so only because our knowledge is not more than a fraction does not matter how clever we may think we are.

In the end I would say what I always say If God will come and see every human personally and show himself then why people would not believe in him, but then what is the point of Faith. We people do not ask over relatives to prove their golden promises and just trust them and here we demand God to show himself to us or we do not believe. I have no doubt he will show once but then for many it would be a bit too late.
Thank GOD for FREE WILL!.
And I thank the CREATOR who created me with a uniue set of finger and foot prints. My DNA! which humans are now trying to copy to creat other humans. I'm glad I don't have to settle for manmade objects that has no interest to me.

The MOON is hanging on nothing.
The WIND you cannot see.
All the things that cannot be seen by the human eyes, how is this possible/
Who is the CREATOR of all these things?

Thise who mention that people have been statving for thousand of years, whose fault it that?
Man made gun to kill other humans.
Well, you can belive that there is a CREATOR who made it possible to the MOON to shine, the SUN that was place so far away to protect us from scorching.

THINK about it!
