Right Charities....
Religious Charities.
I think everyone knows I hate religion but obviously charities are a good thing....
is it wrong for me to not give to a charity because its religious? I would rather give to one that isnt based on a faifth.
Now I know its stupid and I know part of giving to charity is to make yourself feel better, But i've always thought that the reason their doing charity work is to try and appease some sky god and that winds me up and I don't want to encourage it!!!!! Any thoughts?

I disagree completely with your view below,

So you would always give to a non Christian charity over a religious one all because you think it confirms that their beliefs are true. That is a load of old bull!!, it doesn't confirm nothing. All it confirms is fellow compassion for man regardless of faith.

2 points Rev Ive always hated religion and have never shyed away from that fact so please feel free to use me as an example any time you want as someone who comes on here and does actively hate it. In case your wondering why i'm still on here then the simple answer is knowldege. Waldo, Jake, Naomi and others know so much that I love hearing what they have to say.

I would much rather give to someone who is doing it purely for the benefit of fellow men. Rather than someone who can then try throw it in my face why their particular brand of religion is good and then it maybe confirms their beliefs.

Why not look at which is better organised and likely to use your money most effectively - whatever their reasons for doing it?
Take four examples.
Person A is a good person who is running a charity because he wants to help. Give him £1 and he'll save 2 lives.
Person B is a Christian who is running a charity because he thinks he'll score brownie points with God. Give him a £1 and he'll save 5 lives.
Person C is a wannabe who is only running a charity to get famous and become a pop star. Give him £1 and he'll save 10 lives.
Person D is a nasty piece of work who is only running a charity to spite his ex. Give him £1 and he'll save 20 lives.
Where does your money go? The one who has the most laudable motive according to your moral code? Or the one who'll save most lives? Basing that decision on your own hang-ups or ideology strikes me as a bit selfish when lives are at stake.

whilst i think your point is excellent I can't imagine anyone who really studies the group they are bout to hand over paltry sums of money?

i suspect if a religious person said that they would 'go out of their way' to only give to religious cahrities there woud be riots in this ection of ab.

The only issue of consequence is whether the money goes to provide tangiable benefits to the target audience. If 10% is going to be creamed off so that in addition to tents and clothing Charity X can give out bibles, they can do something anotomically unlikely to themselves (see these tosswits from the US for a jaw-dropping example of inanity and crassness: http://www.faithcomes...y-hope-audio-bibles).
There are plenty of secular charities that one can give to if one feels strongly about that. Personally, I think it's more important to get the maximum value from donations to the needy in the form of actual practical aid and will donate to whomever is able to do that.

Care to back up your rather bold (and factually incorrect - go and find out who the single largest group donating on the micro-loans site Kiva is, for a start) claims with some evidence, SkyPlus? I mean, I know you can't, but it'd be nice if you'd at least pretend to have some actual facts to back up your assertations.
