Right Charities....
Religious Charities.
I think everyone knows I hate religion but obviously charities are a good thing....
is it wrong for me to not give to a charity because its religious? I would rather give to one that isnt based on a faifth.
Now I know its stupid and I know part of giving to charity is to make yourself feel better, But i've always thought that the reason their doing charity work is to try and appease some sky god and that winds me up and I don't want to encourage it!!!!! Any thoughts?

i shouldn't think there should be much suspicion of christian iad either, its jiust their name. they help people of all faiths and nationailties.
i think if you are going to give to charity for a particular cause then its up to you really where you put it. i would probably find denying humanitarian aid to a faith based charity in favour of an animal one because of that faith a bit sad, but again, its your money.

to clarify MY point (not Jakes) I dont like encouraging people of faifth collecting based on their...whatever principles. It just doesn't sit right with me. When an Athiest does charity he/she is doing it because they want to help fellow man and not to appease a god. I'm not picking on any charity in particular and wouldn't give money to an animal shelter over say a Haiti fund but I would look for a non religious based one.
Sherminator i think you'll find that pleasing god and helping your fellow man are intertwined in all religions.
You give your money to help and make a difference, ad it does exactly that, so be happy and proud and dont worry yourself about what others do it for but im guessing that even if the whole world knew there wasn't a god, there would still be charities, some of us humans are naturally givers and good natured whether we have belief in god or not.

The giving money to charities is a minefield and it's nothing to do with faith........it's all to do with the actual amount which is used for the actual reason it is given, as opposed to the amount which is swallowed in overheads.
I don't know the figures, but going on proven record, I always give to the Salvation Army if they come around with the collecting box........

Any monies prospective charities collect is not going to God is it?? it is going to help fellow man, cats and dogs, worms etc etc. Poople who set up non faith based charities are going to have a belief in God too so what is the difference?. As long as it all goes to help fellow man then whether it be four legs or two then I don't see where it matters.
I myself give to the centipeade (don't have time to do a spell check on centipeade) foundation as they always need new shoes!! lol

again missing the point forget all charities agenda and lets just say there is 2 charities (one religious one not) set up to help the haiti people. I will always pick the non religious one. because the religious people, i think are trying to appease a god and when I give them money it confirms that their beliefs are correct and encourages them!!
puff, i think your sentiments are well intended but you seem to have cut swathe against the non legged parts of our society, think of the snail foundation or the save our snakeskin society.
i am not one to take heed of religious intent - always consider the bigger picture about who is helped - but i felt an uneasy sense of voodooo from the snake society when they handed me a nice pair of new shoes, a belt and a wallet in recognition of my donation.

A few thoughts. Firstly does it really matter what the charities motives are so long as their aims and actions are good. Secondly I don't think their motive is to appease a god, in most cases it is to help their fellow man. Thirdly, if there is an alternative means of aiding the same cause then no it doesn't matter which route you take. Fourthly and most importantly, I shall be saving your question forever so when someone moans "no-one on here actually hates religion..." I shall delight in wheeling it out.
so sherminmator, do you think by giving to the non religious charity, that you are making them more atheist ? or do you propose that they just take that money and buy a tent, or bottles for fresh water or suchlike......... i gues the religious ones just send it off to the vatican and sit around the pool of 5 star hotels.
in any event, if you are giving to charity, then you are giving to charity. end.
