Atheists Converting

To all atheists on here out there, if you were compelled, and must join in a religious denomination which would you choose to follow – Judaism , Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Baha’i, Hinduism, Scientology, etc.?

I have a lot of respect for budhist philosophy about desire being the cause of all the worlds ills but they do rather lose me with all the reincarnation claptrap.

I like the modesty associated with the Baha'i belief in there being elements of truth in all the world's religions.

But I think it'd have to be Rastafarianism - no particular reason - anybody got a light?

It wouldn't matter which. If compelled (and it would take a lot of compulsion, even unto death) I would merely toss an eight-sided coin and choose that one, even if it were 'etc.' I would just pretend to follow it to save my life, so my cowardly submission would mean nothing. The question is pointless.

By the way, if you remember the Classics you did at school you'll recall that 'pan' is the Greek for 'all', as in panchromatic (all colours), panoply (a full suit of armour), pan-American, etc. So pantheism is the worship of all gods. The Pantheon in Rome has statues of them all around the walls.

Just to be picky (as always) the Pantheon USED to have statues of gods around the walls,but since it is now a Christian church it only has Christian statues.

Panthiesm is the belief that the universe/nature and god, are one and the same thing, not the belief of all gods. Just thought i'd point that out

I am a Christian but if I did'nt have that belief I think Buddhism sounds like a gentle kind of religion to follow. I have to confess I never knew what Pantheism stood for and if it covered all religions ie 'one God' which I believe there is then there may be something in that. Islam is open to far too many interpretations, as we well know.

askyourgran. Buddhism has no creator God and doesn't promote the idea of one God in the sense that you, as a Christian, believe in one God. Their philosophy is one of peace and kindness to others, and revolves around personal spiritual development culminating eventually a blissful oneness with the whole spirit of the universe.
