Scam Phone Number

Out of interest, does anyone know how these Phone scammers manage to change their phone number? We had one last evening and the number shown on our Recognition thing was our own number, but with the last two digits reversed.

Probably got exchange equipment that sets the calling line identity to whatever it wants when it starts a call.
