I have received a message on my iPad saying it hasnt been set up. It’s quite old and been used over and over. It says that the owner has used find my phone (I haven’t). To link it to their Apple ID. It’s asking for my details. (ID and password) to set the activation lock. Help and advice please

Looks like a visit to your local apple store is in order.

Thanks I will look forward to that Lol
that will have to wait, all apple stores are closed for 2 weeks
bobbie, as you have 2 ipads, you could do an apple chat to get your other ipad sorted. I find chat really easy to use, they are friendly and patient. https://getsupport.apple.com/?caller=cups&SG=SG004
'all apple stores are closed for 2 weeks'

No they're not. Not even in China.
My apologies.

Thanks everyone for your replies xx Boy, the internet scares me sometimes
I think it might be genuine but I would be carefu. I'm not sure what a scammer would achieve from this. Do you know your ID and password? Maybe put an incorrect version of the ID in and see what happens- if it says thanks that's fine then you have given nothing away. if it says 2sorry that's wrong' then that suggests it is a genuine apple request.
I'd use the good ipad though to do an online chat

Tried that. No luck But thanks
one of the reasons i dont buy apple products, but if its yours and you have the id for it, ie the previous owner wiped and deleted ownership
then i do not see why you cannot put your details in and use it.
you did apply an owneship for it?
you tried apple chat? why no luck?

Fender, this was always my iPad. My son bought it for me a few years ago. It was new. Wolfgang I tried putting the wrong codes etc, but it was not accepted. I looked at the Apple chat, but couldn’t get far, because I cant find the model details on the pad
Well if you can't use it is there anything to lose by putting in the right ID and password?
