I have recently missed the pack and all the other balls on the break off. One opponent says I should start again as the game hasnt started until a ball is hit. Second says I should start again but give four points away for a foul stroke. Third says I give four points away but opponent should carry on from where the white ball has finished. The know all says he doesnt know because neither he nor his mates have ever missed the pack on the break. What is the real answer please.

Four point foul as you missed. Opponent has the option of playing or making you break again......why would he/she want to play the shot though as the reds are still all together? Very improbably unless they are daft.
I would say optoin three, no expert though!
You lose 4 points for a foul shot and the opponent has the choice of making you play again aor whether to take his shot from where the white ball ends up. Of course, if he is snookered on the reds then he will have a free ball. I think!
you are correct on the free shot, jd - with the object ball to count as an extra red if he so chooses it.
Correct, hence 155 rather than 147 being the highest possible break.

and 16 being the highest score with just one shot......useless trivia!
