10 Pin Bowling Query/rules

With the first bowl a bowler leaves a split - in this case pins 6 and 10. The pinsetter only picks up pin 10 and 6 is swept away and cannot be replaced manually. What is the bowler's position with regard to achieving a spare with only one pin standing?

Can I just make sure I understand what's going on here??
Pins 6 and 10 were not knocked down, but when the machine cleared everything away, it only put pin 10 back down??
What is it showing on the screen??
Is it showing that only pin 10 is left, or is it saying that pins 6 and 10 are left, even though only pin 10 is standing??
Either way, you can manually override the computer and reset pins, scores, etc, so whatever happened, it shouldn't be a problem.
It's been a while since I last went 10 pin bowling, but I clearly remember something similar happening, which was eventually corrected.
If push comes to shove, you can call a member of staff over to correct it ..... which is possibly what we did in the end :)

Thanks Gizmonster. Your assumptions are right but our newly installed computer system only allows us to amend scores and even the previous version never allowed us to reset the pins as they should be. We have had to imagine where the missing pin is and rely on a verdict from those playing as to what did or may have happened. Never seen staff replacing missing pins as it happens all too frequently.

I'm fairly sure that pins have been replaced when I've been playing.
Computers are prone to errors and the sensors aren't always 100% reliable, so there needs to be the facility to override any possible errors.
Time for an upgrade me thinks :)
