How's this for an idea? We have quailifying as now for the first race. For all the other races they start in reverse order of their current standings. What do you think?

Come on now, it's brain cellS, I've two of them at least...
''start in reverse order''

This idea has been banded about plenty of times. All it would produce is more (dangerous) over taking of slower cars and less experienced drivers in the first third/half of the race then things would even out and we'd be back to as before.

Possibly more exciting but not worth the added danger element imo.

well thanks to those that have comented on the original post. Some valid points.
If there were always to be a handicap in being placed near the top at the end of only the first race, would they not drive in such a way so as to finish as near to last place as possible? (Engaged ma second brain cell there!)
How about the manufacturers produce the cars and the drivers draw lots at the beginning of the race to decide which car they drive on the day?
''and the drivers draw lots at the beginning of the race to decide which car they drive on the day?''

So you end up with drivers driving cars that they've never driven before with wildly different physical characteristics and performance levels? Bad idea!
d9f1c7 - When I post questions on here I sometimes get what I consider to be some crackpot replies which I ignore, and just take notice of the genuine replies, which I think you ought to do.

Fellow ABers on here make comments and ask all types of questions, both light-hearted and serious. I misjudged your question for which I apologised as I could see that you were very upset.

But I don't think there was any need to call those of us that didn't reply in the precise way you wanted, 'ar5seh0les'.

Perhaps you need to find a dedicated F1 blog site where you could place your question. By the way I'm a keen F1 follower myself.
^^ What he said.
'So you end up with drivers driving cars that they've never driven before with wildly different physical characteristics and performance levels?'

You say that like it's a bad thing.
I was going to put a suggestion forward, but having seen the "ar5seh0les" comment will not bother.
Serious loss of power there from d9f1c7's diffuser. Sorry not power, it is known as humour, something designed to lighten the load.

Bring back fuelling...better tighter chicanes on some of the tracks.
"slowest first" is the way the grid lines up in small oval racing - but these are, in the main, contact sports, allowing the faster (more skilled?) drivers to hustle past - in cars built for rough & tumble type racing.

F1 is most definitely a non-contact formula. many F1 circuits have limited overtaking options. It either wouldn't work, or would be incredibly hazardous.
here's an ar5eole answer but I'd say put Michael back with Ferrari.
michael couldnt go as fast as massa let alone alonso in a ferrari

the problem with your suggestion d9 is that teams will start being half arsed in order to qualify last, it can be manipulated, at least with the current system people are trying their very best.

there is quite a mixed bag in the top ten on the grid, an improvement on 2011 :)
Don't agree cazzz but we'll never know.
''put Michael back with Ferrari''

Why? Shuey is passed his best and Ferrari have Alonzo - widely regarded as the most complete F1 driver on the grid at the moment. Having said that, I'd be happy to see Noddy replace Massa...
remember that rosberg is supposed to be regarded as not a great driver, yet he consistently out qualifies/races schumacher.
I have a brilliant idea but I dont like it

please bother baldric unless you put yourself into that category.
From what I've seen Michael's main problem this and last season has been breakdowns. Anyhow this was my suggestion for making it more exciting for me personally.
