Which is the biggest town or city without a club in the Football League or Premiership? Cambridge, population c 100,000, might be a contender but I suspect there are yet bigger ones.

You come against the problem here of what constitutes a town or city. For example, the actual town of Wakefield only has a population of around 77,000 but the City of Wakefield has a population of around 326,000.
Many people would consider that London boroughs don't really fit into your definition of a 'town' or a 'city', but what about Croydon? While it's actually a London borough, it's also a distinct town in its own right (with a population of about 365,000).

I beg to differ on your view of the Black Country taliesin..Yes it has it's unappealing areas but where I live is very nice :)
..and all the bad weather always seems to miss us.
The answer is Dudley..It's much bigger than Wakefield and has defined borders even though it is now part of a conurbation.
