Snooker 2020 Bid Fails

The bid for snooker to be considered for inclusion in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games has failed....................along with Chess and Bridge. Now, whilst i fully understand the snooker bid (ok, some may not consider it a sport), chess and bridge cannot qualify as sports in anyone's wildest imagination. What next, bids for knitting and facebook trolling?

Sumo wrestling also missed out though i guess that is because Japan is the only country where it is practiced on a professional level, though it is quite popular in Europe at an amateur level.

well they had medals for art and litrature early on. Doesn't say anywhere that it has to be sport. I'd like to see chess though because the current world championship is a farce and it would do it good to have regular top flight competition.

I like to define "sport", as distinct from "game", as any competition where vision and execution are two different skills. In chess, if you can see the next move then there is nothing to stop you from playing it. Ditto bridge.

Mind, under that definition Darts becomes a sport.

fat men chucking darts, wastrels using cues are not in the same league as sportsmen and women who train physically and have to use their brains, they have to watch what they eat and especially what substances they put in their bodies. i imagine that chess uses more calories than chucking darts and
shooting snooker.

Latest news is that 'Jumping onto a Juggernaut' is going to be considered as the next Olympic sport.......the Africans and Eastern Europeans will be strong favourites for Gold
