Great performance from Heather, but Serena proved why she is a true Champion. Often on the ropes, lesser players would have lost, but she dug deep and came through. A real winner.

I'm glad I watched it in the pub. The whole place was going wild.

That might be the hardest game that Serena has this fortnight.

3-0 up in the 3rd and with a half decent first serve, she would have won.

She played so well. She must be feeling absolutely devastated today. I hope she remembers in the weeks to come how close she came to dethroning one of the greats, and that will give her a lot of confidence.
I'm no fan of Williams, but I was pleased to see how gracious she was about Heather in her post-match interview, saying she should set her goals higher than becoming a top 20 player.

JJ @ 09.32; I think her big sis may give her some uneasy moments. Serena leads 14-11 in head 2 heads but she looked out on her feet after yesterday's victory whilst Venus simply cruised through. All may depend upon the younger Williams' powers of recovery.

I thought Serena was very gracious in her comments later (I've always thought of her as more human than her sister). Heather really has what it takes - perhaps next year....
