Not sure of this screaming player's name, neither do I want to but is there any need to hear this stupid woman's noise, they it's her way of serving, B.*** If she was getting leg over it might be a different kettle of fish.
Firstly, she is not the only one to emit these noises, they're nearly all at it - even Murray sounds as if he's having difficulty with a 'stool' when he is serving:-)
Secondly, it is not cheating - only if the player is still screaming as the opponent is about to play their shot. If she has been warned in the past, i dare say that is the real reason why.
Finally, if a player refuses to face her because of her screams, that player would forfeit the match.
If each contender refused to play the person there is a problem that needs to be addressed Ken, I can not recall the Decibels level of her noise but it was above the excepted level.
One of the newspapers said yesterday that she screams at over 100 decibels, the same as a lion's roar. I don't know where they got the measuring equipment from, though.
I hope they are making illegal in juniors in order to discourage the habit. But if they can enforce a rule there, why they can't do it in the women's (and men's if necessary)? I know some men grunt loudly too, but not many are as irritating as Sharapova (and Victoria Azarenka - another unnecessary noise-maker).
Hello minty! I trust you and the gang are all keeping well.
Yes, I frequent this place very irregularly these days, the miracle has happened and I am actually courting, well, engaged to be married in fact so attend here briefly on the odd occasion when working nights.
Thanks for the sentiments, greatly appreciated.
Screeching or yelling is an ancient and honourable part of many martial arts, where it is known as kiai. It is used to distract the opponent and to induce fear.
Perhaps that lady might watch this and improve her technique
When you really, really thwack the ball, some amount of grunting is almost inevitable. The real problem is that it's being deliberately exaggerated by several players. Although by no means all of them.
Aww congratulations Chill! I was just saying the other day about missing your commentary but what a lovely reason why! :)
I tend to just tune it out in the end and concentrate on the tennis. I heard about them trying to stamp it out in the juniors too.
I think they should also keep a crack down on some of the behaviours (swearing, acting up, taking out frustrations on the Court etc...). I understand it's high level, stressful and frustrating at times though good sportsman/womanship should prevail. I don't care how good they are, manners are manners and they should set a good example.
