F1 needs to look at gravel traps. Many of them have been replaced by tarmac run-offs. This has produced criticism as it makes driving easier (the drivers often use the gravel as part of the track). But there is no doubt that Fernando's crash was made all the worse by the gravel. His car remained upright until it struck the gravel but was barrelled over as soon as the wheels bit into the stones.
