The problem was Odds of 8-1 were offered for him to do it, FA think people in the know took the offer.(Family,Friends etc).

He set a bad example to all who saw him, particularly children, certainly form the health point of view.

Betting in sport has uncovered some disgraceful rule-breaking.

Joey Barton himself, Stephen Lee in Snooker, Hanse Cronje in cricket. There are numerous examples.

If it isn't bad enough that some competitors seek to gain advantage from drug taking, there are plenty more unscrupulous folk who seek to gain financially.

They are the cancer of sport and deserve the severest of penalties.

But surely if he hadn't eaten a pie then he could also have been accused of determining the outcome?

There is also the fact that the bet appears to be he must eat it 'on air' As he has no control of the cameraman either he was in league with the him or did not have full control of the outcome therefore could not fully influence the bet either way. Perhaps the cameraman should be investigated?

Seems to me either the Government outlaw such betting or accept there will always be a chance of someone being a bit less than honest.

The intent was clearly there to break betting rules whether he managed to pull it off or not.

The bookies will give odds for a lot of the more, shall we say, bizarre requests.

The problem occurs when a sportsman or woman breaks the rules in relation to spkrts betting. The rules around this are very clear.

In this case, the goalkeeper has transgressed and paid the ultimate price.

One 'Desperate Dan' to have even considered it.
