He's ate a pie the F.A. need something better to worry about.Never mind, Joey Barton can carry on kicking fellow players and diving completely unchecked.
Gives a whole new meaning to, "Who ate all the pies?"

A reserve goalie, not on the pitch, eats a pie. What a ridiculous story. Have the FA got sweet FA else to do with their time?
The problem was Odds of 8-1 were offered for him to do it, FA think people in the know took the offer.(Family,Friends etc).
Good for him!
As you said,Jack, ridiculous, but FA has strict Rules on Gambling.
When I was young I wouldn't have survived St James Park without a Dickman's pie and a mug of Oxo at half time.
I thought football players were young, fit and athletic. He isn't any of those things.
Is/was he a full-time player?
Not only the reserve goal keeper but the goalkeeper coach.
He set a bad example to all who saw him, particularly children, certainly form the health point of view.
Nice bloke maybe, but one of life,s jokes.....
He deserved his fate .
Oh Sqad, don't be so pie-ous!
Sqad - I didn't think that you were the type of 'bloke' to take football too seriously :-)

Imagine, in years to come, historians will try to analyse this incident and try to work out what it was all about.
I feel sorry for him.

It was obviously a bit of a jape, which backfired.
No sympathy for this fool whatsoever. Sutton Utd's impressive cup run tarnished by the idiotic antics from the sidelines.

Betting in sport has uncovered some disgraceful rule-breaking.

Joey Barton himself, Stephen Lee in Snooker, Hanse Cronje in cricket. There are numerous examples.

If it isn't bad enough that some competitors seek to gain advantage from drug taking, there are plenty more unscrupulous folk who seek to gain financially.

They are the cancer of sport and deserve the severest of penalties.

But surely if he hadn't eaten a pie then he could also have been accused of determining the outcome?

There is also the fact that the bet appears to be he must eat it 'on air' As he has no control of the cameraman either he was in league with the him or did not have full control of the outcome therefore could not fully influence the bet either way. Perhaps the cameraman should be investigated?

Seems to me either the Government outlaw such betting or accept there will always be a chance of someone being a bit less than honest.
Odds were given for him to eat a pie.

Whether he would be seen 'on air' or not doesn't matter because in any event he sought to gain advantage by having a pie in his hands.

The intent was clearly there to break betting rules whether he managed to pull it off or not.
If he hadn't eaten a pie, would he of still lost his job ?because some body would of still gained from it.

I think the bookies to blame for a stupid bet
How could anyone benefit from a losing bet? If he hadn't eaten a pie all bets are down aren't they?
The bookie?
Steg, I thought you were referring to customers!

The bookies will give odds for a lot of the more, shall we say, bizarre requests.

The problem occurs when a sportsman or woman breaks the rules in relation to spkrts betting. The rules around this are very clear.

In this case, the goalkeeper has transgressed and paid the ultimate price.

One 'Desperate Dan' to have even considered it.
