Sad news from Andy, he is retiring as he is in great pain. It will now be up to Kyle Edmund to fill the breach.

Should have retired when he realized his injuries were so severe.... —————- To be fair that’s easy to say with hindsight but given that he’s a true sportsman with a never-say-die attitude up to this point it’s difficult. He’s a professional, he wouldn’t just throw in the towel on a whim and the realisation that it’s over for him has...

Having announced his retirement, he shouldn't still be entering the Australian Open. Why would he want to be beaten ( as is quite likely) in the first round, ?? It must be difficult for his opponent too, as the crowd will obviously be vociferously sympathetic !!!!
Id rather remember him as a champion, than limping off the court as the loser, crying with pain, poor thing!

Have you seen how much they get paid even when losing in the first round??
Is Murray not one of those players who has voiced his disquiet about players entering prestige tournaments when not fully fit? If a player - no matter who he/she is or what status he/she holds - isn't somewhere near peak physical fitness, they should not even consider playing. I'm sure i'm not on my own in saying i would rather he retired now than get trounced in the first set against some unknown, then retire injured just for a final pay packet.
I doubt he is playing for " a final pay packet "
It's what SharonA appears to be suggesting he should do, anne. I just think he would be disrespecting both the sport and any future opponent if he believed that, even half fit, he could progress at Wimbledon past the first week. And that's something i don't think he would even contemplate.
Who knows what he will do, but tennis will be poorer without him. Imo .
I'd have a guess at commentating.
Sad day for tennis.
I really hope he does something more constructive than commentating, Tony. He has much more to offer the sport. Can you imagine how inspired some of our up and coming tennis stars would be to have him as their coach?
//Have you seen how much they get paid even when losing in the first round??//
i doubt if that's a consideration for a player allegedly worth £83 million
Come on, ael. He is Scottish!
:-)
Lol. Now he's Scottish !!!!!
Not commentating I hope. He doesn't have the voice for it and it would be a waste of his talent.
He should go now I think.
Always has been in my eyes.
Some might say that the great man was ill-equipped for the world of commentary.
His delivery might just lag a little behind the action.
He will always be remembered for his achievements.
Indeed he will be remembered for his achievements. I'm pleased that I was watching on Centre Court for his first Wimbledon triumph.
I will remember him for the 4 't's' :

tears, temper, tantrums, tonsils ;)

I will be disappointed if he attempts any tournament if not much fitter. If he does have to withdraw on court at Wimbledon I hope the groundsman put the covers on ...
You were actually there that day, Clover?! I had to make do with TV coverage. So jealous!
It was quite amazing to be there, Jim. That last game seemed to go on forever. I cried when he finally got there with Djokovic dumping the ball in the net.
