We're having a new fridge/freezer delivered tomorrow, so we'll shut down our now FF early tomorrow, but it is iced up...is it the right thing to defrost?...would the takers-away expect it to be squeaky clean?...an obvious question(s), but didn't think of it before! Ta Muchly and Take Care All.
Do what I've done in the past, early in the morning empty, shut off, boil kettle pour hot water into a bowel leave on rack inside fridge, shut door, it will speed up defrost, refresh with hot water after about 45mins.
Shouldn't take to long to de ice, I normally take food out and pack in cardboard boxes covered wiwith towels a store in coolest place I can find. Turn of appliance and put pans of boiling water in and leave it with doors open. Ice will soon loosen and can normally be "scraped off" with a spatula before totally unfrozen, comes of in sheets. Doesn't take to long an hour tops.
Thanks teacake and tony for your warm/hot water tips and I've got plastic spatula ready - always liked lifting great glaciers of ice, same as stripping wallpaper off walls, biggest block of ice, longest strip of paper! We have been steadily eating our way through all the frozzy foods, but savin' me ice cubes till last, not that I'll be havin' a whisky in the morning...erm well, I don't think so! Many Thanks All!
I use a hair drier when I'm defrosting the freezer, takes almost no time at all. As for keeping food, at the moment I could put it anywhere in the house and it would stay frozen!
