The own goal was going in the net anyway regardless of whether it made brief contact with the Danish player. Sterling definitely didn't dive. He was helped to fall and England were awarded a penalty. The better side rightfully won and its been a huge morale boost for our country. Well done, England. I'm prodigiously proud of you and will be right behind you this...

maydup: "Disappointed to see them win by an own goal and a penalty from a shocking dive. Not feeling particularly proud this evening." - the OG was forced, if you knew anything about football you'd see that. He had to clear or the attacker would have got it, at that position any touch would be a goal regardless. The penalty was valid VAR would have been used to check,. What part of Scotland are you from?
TTT, i think you are being a tad blinded by your patriotism. Would you have been happy had Denmark been awarded that penalty? We were shown endless angles of the incident and i, for one, didn't see enough contact to send Raheem Sterling sprawling on the turf. Am i glad we won? Do bears defecate in the woods? Is the Pope a left-hander? Does Gully not love Boris? :-))
sunk: "I cannot help but feel that Southgate is an abysmal manager blessed with an abundance of good players." - he's delivered us to the first major final in 55 years and he's abysmal? Right oh! That has got to be the most crass post in years of AB. He's done better than any manager/coach since Sir Alf and he's abysmal! We've had better players and not got this far, eg 1990 WC. What is going through your loaf me old china?
ken, he was body checked
//As former Premier League referee Peter Walton explained on ITV: ‘It has to be a clear and obvious error, there’s also an upper body check by the Danish defender I think this is a penalty and VAR is checking it. //

irrelevant really you take the rough with the smooth, many incidents have gone against us in the past, remember Lampard's "goal" against Algeria for example? In any sport you need to embrace any good fortune as you can be sure that you'll get some bad fortune at some point. It's a penalty if the ref says it's a penalty and it's a goal if it's in the paper in the morning, end of.
