Aww, this sounds really hard.

Question Author
No.....nothing cryptic.
Can't be a simple factual one, though, can it?

Or was it a long time ago. Did you used to be able to represent both countries?

Wonder if it was at a World Cup, or something?

Answer: John Wark.

John is a Scotsman and footballer who starred in a film called Escape to Victory in which a German side played an English team of prisoners of war in World War 2 and John Wark played centre forward.

The film was shown in the morning after the cessation of World War 2 and in the afternoon of that very same day, John Wark played for his native Scotland against England at Hampden Park.

Good eh! jayne

The "English" team was actually made up of players of several nationalities, so not English. Sly Stallone was the very obviously American goalie. And Pele didn't sound too English either.
