I am a Leeds fan, living in Somerset,if the ref was'nt sure, he was 25 yards away, then the linesman should have seen it.The tv camera was near to the linesman and clearly from that angle berbatov dived.
Being a Leeds fan does not make me unable to speak the truth without bias.

But if he'd given a similar decision in Liverpool's favour instead it would have been ok huh Mr Leeds fan?
why joe?
some people are capable of watching a game and giving a honest opinion. regardless of whether the team involved is the one they support.
TV has the advantage of replay at many different angles, the ref does not. The sooner they bring in modern technology the better for all concerned.
or in this case 'hate'
So how many Leeds fans do you think thought a penalty should have been given then MT?

a) None
b) Zero
c) Zilch
d) Zip

Do you need to phone a friend or ask the audience?
well my son thought it was a penalty, and he is a Leeds fan so er....................

can you modify the question?
Too many professionals seem to believe that fooling the 'men in black' to be an integral part of the game..........
Obviously your son doesn't have that total Man U hatred in him that most LU fans have
I lost £5 on this game - if Man U had not been awarded a penalty then Liverpool may have gone on to win. I hate when games are won on a penalty, because this says nothing about who the best team was on the day.
“...if Man U had not been awarded a penalty then Liverpool may have gone on to win.”

Very possibly. Or they may have gone on to lose five nil, or to draw six all. But since they didn’t manage to score in the remaining 88 minutes following the penalty it is difficult to see how your claim can be substantiated.

The “best team on the day” is the one which scores the most goals. Since the awarding of penalties is an integral part of the game which often leads to a goal being scored, then penalties contribute to determining which team is best.

There are no points awarded in football for style or effort. Only goals count.

I half agree, Steve. Very often (in many sports, not only fitba) the team or individual that plays "the best" does not win. However, that's sport. It seems, however, that football fans are among the most vociferous of the "we woz robbed" brigade.

I remember a long since deceased old friend of mine who was an avid QPR fan. His team had been thrashed 6-0 (by Arsenal in the Cup about ten years ago if I recall). His summary of the match (which was deadly serious) "They were six of the luckiest goals I've ever seen !"

I was hoping Man u would win,but that was a disgraceful decision on Webbs part,I was hoping Giggs would miss it.Gerrards sending off was just, very bad foul.
Yet another example of the highly paid cheats in premiership football. The body language of Berbatov during his interview said it all. Howard Webb gave an honest decision as he saw it. May be one day footballers will play with a level of honesty. But do not hold your breath
As it stands the Refs decision is final (with help from the assist refs) so the techno part is irrelevant. (see Mr Blatter!) I hate the fact that diving (going to ground) has become so prominent part of the game but it has.

However the decision was made and the penalty stood simple as. Gerrard by the letter of law, should have walked.

simple fact: Man United 1-0 Liverpool ;-)
simple fact this happens every week in every over game but oh! its man utd everyone HATES man utd so they MUST have cheated or the ref CHEATED, yawn same old same old story!

At the end of the day it was one of those situations where if it's for your team you're shouting for a penalty and if it's against your team you're saying it was never a penalty
