desktop icon

how do i get rid of a desktop icon (recent places) I have right clicked it and only see?

open
clear recent items list
create short-cut

but no delete on it so how do i get rid please?

Left click once to highlight it.

Press delete on your keyboard.

if that doesn't work open up computer from the start menu, look for recent paces in the left hand pane, right click on it and select send to > desktop as shortcut, then you should be able to delete it from the desktop...

(yeah it's a strange glitch in windows7)
