any advice as to what make/model of mouse I re-place my old one with?

Nobody can really answer this for you.

Pretty much all the currently available optical mice are perfectly usable so it really comes down to what you find comfortable to hold. the best advice is to go into your local PC word where they have loads on display and see what fits your hand.

I have logitech wireless trackballs. But the design I feel perfect doesn't seem to be offered these days :-( Dread having to replace mine.

If you like a big one .. I think you do : ) .. Logitech have a few.
Try and get one with fwd/back buttons on side for web browsing and obviously a scroll wheel.
