sp2 vs sp1a

Good evening AB`s further to a recently posted question regarding MSsp2
my machine crashed five times trying to download SP2 has anyone out there tried SP1a it has been recomended and I am rather hesitant in view of recent disasters to download it. any advice or help would be very much appreciated

Downlloading to what OS? Vista?
Is it a raw exe file being downloaded?

I have loaded SP2 and SP3 to XP pro more times than I care to remember (without any issues)
What I WILL tell you is that if you have a memory problem .. and the file(s) cannot be read properly, that would probably bugger the upgrade (hundreds of files are upgraded during SP2 process.

So it's still not clear on whether it is 'downloading' or 'installing'

hi albags thanks for your answer the problem seems to be installing it downloads then splatt nothing hope this helps
